000 ABPZ30 KNHC 010503 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 900 PM PST Sat Nov 30 2024 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Tropical storm activity in the eastern Pacific basin this November was about average, with one tropical storm (Lane) that formed during the month. There was also one tropical depression that formed in November this year. Based on the long-term (1991-2020) average, one named storm typically forms in November every two years. Overall, the 2024 eastern Pacific hurricane season was below normal in terms of the number of named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes. In 2024, 12 named storms formed, of which 4 became hurricanes and 3 became major hurricanes (category 3 or greater on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale). These numbers are below the long-term (1991-2020) eastern Pacific basin averages of 15 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the combined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, activity in 2024 was about 32 percent below the long-term (1991-2020) average.
