DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 800 PM MST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Carlotta was
located near latitude 17.9 North, longitude 112.8 West. Carlotta is
moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h). This motion
is expected to continue through tonight, followed by a turn toward
the west on Friday and a continued westward motion through the
weekend.
Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher
gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days,
and Carlotta is expected to become a hurricane either tonight or
tomorrow.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km)
from the center.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 993 mb (29.33 inches).
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF: Swells generated by Carlotta will affect the coasts of
west-central mainland Mexico and the southern Baja California
peninsula beginning soon. These swells are likely to cause
life-threatening surf and rip current conditions through the
weekend. Please consult products from your local weather office.
