TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 1100 AM PDT SAT AUG 16 2014 For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Karina, located about a thousand miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. 1. A broad area of low pressure has formed about 500 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. Shower activity has increased since yesterday and environmental conditions appear favorable for gradual development during the next several days while the low moves generally west-northwestward at 5 to 10 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...30 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...high...60 percent.
