TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 1100 AM PDT SUN AUG 17 2014 For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Karina, located a little more than a thousand miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. 1. Satellite images indicate that the large low pressure system located about 600 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula continues to show signs of organization. Only a slight increase in thunderstorm activity would result in the formation of a tropical depression later today or tonight while the low moves generally west-northwestward at 5 to 10 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.
